| After
winning several competitions as a teenager, Maximus
(then known as Magadan) recorded a single with the
Caribbean Sound Basin label titled "Only Gun".
This heavy dancehall piece was not only evidence of
his immense talent, but also provided early proof
of his belief in focusing on socially revelant issues
that affect people in his community, as well as citizens
all our the world. This song garnered much recognition
and granted him the opportunity to sign with Main
Street Records in 1997 under the supervision of acclaimed
producer Danny Browne, where he became one of the
first artists out of Trinidad to work with a major
Jamaican label.
There
he produced his next hit single "Do You See What
I See" on the filthy rhythm with label mates
Red Rat, Hawkeye, Goofy, General Degree, Lady G, Vegas
and many others. The rhythm went on to sell tens of
thousands of copies all over the globe.
In
2000 Maximus began t concentrate fully on developing
his own style of Soca music and blending it with various
musical influences he has picked up throughout the
years. Since then he has produced over 20 hit songs
including "Obeah Man", "Lash Satan",
"War" and "Kick It Way".
In
2004 Maximus "the Gladiator" adds another
prize to his collection with the debut of his first
album "From A Distance". This incredible
disc features more than 14 tracks of sensational material
including a bonus track titled "Worldwide Thing",
which was recorded by renowned music producer Richard
"Shams" Browne and is a collaborative effort
between various artists such as Diamond and Precious.
Other tracks featured on the CD are "Doh Break
Yuh Neck", "Hosanna Fire", the self-titled
album piece "From A Distance", and the international
hit that has been burning up the airwaves, "Soca
Train".
Maximus
is indeed a product of the soil and a true role model
for both the young and old to admire. He is known
throughout the Caribbean, but it is just a matter
of time before his name becomes a familiar one in
every household throughout the world.
