After
the group went their separate ways Shanta decided
to do her own thing as a solo artiste . Her first
release “Blind to See” a Crop Over track
featuring Lil Rick which was very successful in
the Crop Over season, earning Shanta appearances
at two of the islands biggest events Caribbean Wet
Fete and Insomnia (10 – 10). Her second release
“Island Girl” was also a success originally
done with a Soca feel was re-recorded under her
genre of Caribbean Pop by Fabian “Minim”
Worrell of Worrell Bros Studio. This new mix was
such a score that it caught the attention of local
male pop sensation J-Co (Jaicko Lawrence) who is
now featured on the track and has made it a part
of his album “We Workin”. Now her most
recent score ‘Caught Up’ written by
Guyanese born Jermaine Charles is set to be released
on local airwaves and in Guyana and is no doubt
favored to do well.
Shanta has worked with :producer
Dwain “Dwaingerous” Antrobus of 3Kings
Studios who has worked with the likes of Calypso
Mega Star Machel Montano, Kevin Little and international
singer/songwriter Wyclef Jean, producer Peter Coppin
of Monster Piece Studios who has worked with artistes
such as Reggae stars Sizzla and Bunji Garlin, and
producer Deepu Panjwani who has worked with calypso
Queen Alison Hinds.
To date after two successful releases
Shanta was nominated amongst the best of the island
for “Best New Artiste” at the Barbados
Music Awards being held on January 5th 2007 at the
Garfield Sobers Complex. So, watch carefully as
one of Barbados’ best kept secrets is about
to be unveiled.
