Denise "Saucy Wow" Belfon

Denise Bellfon is on the hottest Soca singers in Trinidad. She started singing professionally in 1990 with the band Black Sheep and then joined Sound Revolution.

Her first solo recording was in 1995 with her trade mark song “Kakalaylay”. That year she received the award for Emerging Artist from Everybody’s magazine, New York.

From 1996 to 1999, she was nominated for Best Female Soca Artist at the Ragga Soca Awards in Miami. In 1998 & 1999, she won Best Female Soca Artist.

Denise’s great success on the Soca scene has sent her on tours right through North America, Canada, the Caribbean and the United Kingdom.

In the United States, she has toured as the 0pening act for Beenie Man, Beres Hammond, Lady Saw, Sean Paul, Merciless, Bounty Killer, Red Rat, Goofy, Coco Tea, Barrington Levy.

In Trinidad she has worked with Ghetto Flex, Hilton DalzeIl, Machel Montano, Rowdy (Kevin Mollineau), Maga Dan and internationally she has performed background vocals for Wyclef Jean.

Denise lists American singers Mahalia Jackson and Whitney Houston as her first musical influences and says the performances of local sensations Superblue & Denise Plummer encouraged her to become involved in the artform.

Denise has also been a dancer, actor and model and has taught gymnastics at Belmont Junior Secondary and the YMCA.
