| Three
years later, Holder reintroduced her to the soca
arena with a feature vocal on a track called “Just
A Friend,” with Third Base on the Pigtail
Rhythm.
Working
out of LinkUp Studios, Destra released another single
titled “I’ve Got What You Want,”
and it was clear that she was becoming a festival
favourite.
Her
skills did not go unnoticed, and (her now manager/producer)
Brian Morris who, at that time worked at LinkUp
Studios and simultaneously the Front House Engineer
for Roy Cape All Stars, offered her the chance of
a lifetime. Destra became the first lead female
vocalist of Roy Cape All Stars.
One
year later, Destra shook Trinidad with her third
single, “Tremble It.” She placed fourth
in the Soca Monarch competition and third in the
Road March competition.
In
2002 she recorded three singles, off the Roy Cape
CD, titled “Set it off”, “Sex
Appeal.” and” Wrong Bam Bam,”
which received a huge amount of air play and also
became popular.
In
2003, Destra joined Atlantik and took the brave
step of releasing her first solo CD titled RED,
WHITE AND BLACK. The collection, which features
such hits as “Wha Yuh Want,” “Choo
Choo”, and “It’s Carnival,”
is still a favourite with DJs and fans alike. Destra
would go on to come in second place in Road March
Competition with the song "Carnival" ft.
Machel Montano.
Her
2004 album “Laventille” is a hit-laced
set, with tracks like “Celebrate”, “Up
In The Air”, “Come Beta” and a
club remix of “It’s Carnival.”
It also features a song for pan written and produced
by Andre Tanker and a gospel track.
