BERES HAMMOND with the HARMONY HOUSE SINGERS & BAND and COURTNEY JOHN
LIVE IN CONCERT AT KOOL HAUS - TORONTO
with special guest Melanie Fiona Hall (aka Syren) & Mountain Edge Band
TORONTO, ON (July 29, 2008) – Jamaican musical legend Beres Hammond will return to Canada and the United States from July 30th to September 7th for his highly anticipated tour, celebrating his upcoming VP Records' album A MOMENT IN TIME. Beres, along with the Harmony House Singers & Band and Courtney John will grace the city of Toronto on Friday, August 29th at the Kool Haus. Opening the Toronto show will be SRC Records/Universal Motown artist Melanie Fiona Hall (aka Syren), with pre and post show music provided by Mista Jiggz, P-Plus, Agile, Spex, Suppa Natty, DJ Chocolate, and D.O.C.
On the tour, fans can look forward to hear Beres' timeless classics as well as brand new material from his eagerly awaited album, set for release on October 14, 2008.
BERES HAMMOND
Known to many as the originator of "Lover's Rock" or the "Otis Redding of Reggae," Beres Hammond has been writing, producing and pouring out his smoky-sweet voice over every kind of riddim track for over 3 decades. From his early days as the lead singer of the '70s funk-reggae infused band Zap Pow, Beres has consistently produced hits and number one singles.
While newcomers today are searching for a breakthrough hit and old timers are plotting their comeback, Beres is a study in longevity. He released his first studio album, SOUL REGGAE in 1976 spawning the number one hit "One Step Ahead" and in 1985 the dancehall breakthrough "What One Dance Can Do" off his self entitled album.
Hammond has collaborated with Reggae's elite—and has worked with legendary producers like Willie Lindo, Steely and Clevie, and Philip "Fattis" Burrell.
In 1990, his album A LOVE AFFAIR from Donovan Germain's Penthouse label raised his popularity to new heights. Cuts like "Tempted To Touch" and "Who Say" with Buju Banton are still huge in the dancehall today. During the '90s, Beres blazed a trail of modern classics for a variety of producers; from the strugglers' anthem "Putting Up Resistance" (Tappa) to lovers' laments like "Come Back Home" (Star Trail).
In 2001, Beres brought us major hits like "They Gonna Talk" and "Rock Away" from his Grammy-nominated album MUSIC IS LIFE. VP Records then released THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION: CAN'T STOP A MAN in 2003 to commemorate Hammond's career, and in 2004 his most recent album LOVE HAS NO BOUNDARIES, which features his familiar romantic ballads and mid-tempo dancehall grooves.
MELANIE FIONA HALL (aka SYREN)
Melanie Fiona Hall's new smash single "Somebody Come Get Me" was given the honour of inclusion on VP Records' REGGAE GOLD 2008 and this diva is well on her way to notoriety in Canada, the US and the Caribbean. She was raised in Toronto by Guyanese parents and after relocating to Los Angeles to further her education and music career, she was noticed immediately by L.A.'s talent scouts, critics and audiences. Melanie has been noted as being edgy and diverse by fusing the soul of her West Indian culture, reggae and R&B tones into one distinctive timeless sound. Due to her ability to deftly shift between mainstream and Caribbean forms, Melanie is comfortable performing anywhere and has shared the stage with established artists such as Keyshia Cole, Musiq Soul Child, Lupe Fiasco and alongside top flight reggae artists like Buju Banton, Wayne Wonder and Collie Buddz. Her highly anticipated debut album THE BRIDGE on SRC Records/Universal Motown drops in early 2009.
The August 29th Toronto show is co-sponsored by CKLN 88.1FM and CIUT 89.5FM.
