Welcome to the Curvy Revolution - A New World of Fashion Featuring Plus-Size Designers
Toronto, July 28, 2008 – The acknowledgment and acceptance of the plus size woman has now spilled over into the fashion world. Where designers used to focus on featuring dresses up to a size 6 and considered a size 10 the extreme, a new fleet of designers have now entered the market with designs for real women.
“There’s no reason why full figured women can’t wear clothing that is comfortable, and still look sexy,” says Annika Reid, Chief Designer for Candi’D Apple Designs. “Plus-size women are hot and beautiful and their clothing should reflect that and bring out the diva in them.” Annika adds.
The increasing acceptance of the plus size woman is due to the fact that the average woman is now a size 14-16, the plus-size market is a consequence of the dramatic increase in the average body size and this is a trend that has been proven to increase all over the globe. Research shows that in North America alone, over the past 20 years, 66 percent of North American adults were categorized as being plus-size and by 2015 this number is expected to increase by an additional 10%.
Stephanie Agosta, owner of Gutsy Dame.com agrees that “plus-size women are beginning to come out from under the shell where society has placed them which says that they don’t fit in to the mainstream of beauty and fashion due to their size.” Agosta adds, “plus-size women are everywhere and everyone is beginning to take notice.”
Agosta will have her plus-size fashions on display as a vendor at The Fuller Woman Expo while Reid will be featuring her plus-size designs on the runway of The Fuller Woman Expo fashion show. The fashion show is just one of the amazing segments being featured at Canada’s first plus-size woman consumer trade show scheduled for September 2008 at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.
