Stones Throw “Move” Party in Toronto Announced for August 15, 2008
Koch Entertainment, in association with Play De Record and Goodfoot, are energized to bring you the next installment of the bi-monthly Stones Throw “Move” Party on August 15th, 2008 at Wrongbar (1269 Queen St. W) in Toronto. This is the only Canadian residency for the “Move” Party, with the two others being held in Chicago and Atlanta. Each party showcases various talents from the infamous west coast label (www.stonesthrow.com), as their roster of artists/dj’s/producers each bring you their own flavour to this event to Move the crowd until the lights come on. This month’s edition is proud to bring you Dam-Funk, James Pants and Koushik - the latter being the sole Canadian on the Stones Throw roster.
DJ/Producer, Dam-Funk (pronounced Dame), known as Los Angeles’ “Ambassador of Boogie Funk” brings a reverberation of Boogie, Contemporary Soul and Electro-Funk, collected into a harmonic soundscape which creates an original “Modern Funk” sound. With vintage synths, and a heavy base-driven sound, Dam-Funk is guaranteed to show Toronto what funky audio aficionados across Southern Cali have been enjoying for many years.
A multifaceted musician, James Pants is a master of sound. Known to bring a fresh concoction of 80’s Soul, Electro Boogie, Early Rap, New Wave, and Post-Punk Disco (wow, that’s a lot!), James Pants walks a fine line where his music is just sloppy enough to not be dreary, but sufficiently melodic to make for an enjoyable, party-rocking listen. His debut full-length CD, “Welcome” was heralded by blogs around North America as one of the finest releases this year.
We are also proud to present Canada’s own Koushik (born in Dundas, ON), whose muddled subdued hip hop uses original elements to compose distinctive pieces. A 60’s psych-pop influenced sound, drawn together with acoustic guitars, panned strings and harpsichords all uniquely pull together to form a more true school hip hop sound. His debut full-length CD, “Out My Window” is released on September 30, 2008.
Started 12 years ago by DJ/Producer Peanut Butter Wolf as an independent hip hop label, California based Stones Throw Records has collected a cult-like following of its unique hip hop, funk and soul releases. Stones Throw has been, and is home to such artists as Madlib, J Dilla, Peanut Butter Wolf, MF Doom, amongst many others. The label’s subsidiaries Now-Again Records and Soul Cal Records specialize in funk and soul re-issues.
Mixtape Massacres DJ Taktiks (CKLN 88.1) will be warming the crowd up while the drinks keep them cool until the main acts hit the stage.
