New King and Queen of the Bands crowned at Scotia Bank CARIBANA™ 2008
King of the Bands - CALLALOO - Ronald 'Smokey' Allyene
Toronto, ON, Canada: Friday August 1st, 2008 - Scotia Bank CARIBANA crowned a new 'King of the Bands ' and a new 'Queen of the Bands' in front of a sold out crowd at Lamport Stadium last night.
Toronto Caribbean Connections' Queen, Joella Crichton, got the nod for top honours with her colourful portrayal called 'Rhapsody'. Crichton edged out defending Queen of the Bands champion, Tamara Allyene Gittens, denying her of a 3peat.
Ronald Allyene from the band 'CALLALOO' won best King on the night. Toronto Revellers' Martin Scott Pascal was the 'Male Individual of the Year' and Alicia Anderson from Genesis Carnival won 'Female Individual of the Year'.
The 11-time winner and 2007 'King of the Bands' from Carnival Nationz (Rudy Rampersaud) did not compete this year. The unofficial results from the 2008 Kings & Queens Competition are below. CARIBANA will release the 'official' results in a few days.
