Women and Girls of the World launches project “Gift of Hope”, that reaches out to the silenced women and girls of the Democratic Republic of Congo

“Imagine a world where there would be no abuse on children, girls and women”
Toronto, ON, September 1, 2009 – Through an eco fashion show in Toronto, Women and Girls of the World will bring awareness and raise funds to aid the girls living on the streets of Kinshasha in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Gift of Hope will be launched on October 17th at Gibsone Jessop Gallery, Distillery District Bldg. 4-55 Mill Street in Toronto.
The “Gift of Hope” fundraising event will feature unique and eco-friendly chic fashions from three designers, Hempress, Green is Black, and Emua Fashions. Guests will be treated to a night of ‘elegance and education’, regarding why the Congo DRC has recently been dubbed “the World’s Most Dangerous Place for Women and Girls”.
Admission is $25 in advance and tickets are now on sale online at Eventbrite.com and womenandgirlsoftheworld.org. The show will commence at 7pm and last until 11 pm with cocktail reception from 7:00-8:00pm.
“As far as we are aware, what makes this launch of “Gift of Hope” exciting is the awareness of the exploitation that women and girls specifically in the Democratic Republic of Congo are experiencing” said Patricia Kaniki, Project Manager and co-founder of Women and Girls of the World. “We believe that by featuring a documentary of the current situation, we will increase awareness and provide our guests with the opportunity to partner with us to bring hope to these silent voices.”
“Our view is that investment in women and girl is an investment in the health and wellbeing of all of society”, said Ms. Kaniki. “Without the wellbeing of the women, girls, there is no Wellbeing of families, there is no structure, no Hope for anyone”. Proceeds from this event will go directly toward the Gift of Hope Project which seeks to provide a permanent shelter for young mothers living on the streets of Kinshasa with their babies.
The Project Manager of Women and Girls of the World is reporting that they will strategically align with other humanitarian organizations in the near future and will be hosting other entertainment and educational events, which will benefit this worthy cause.
