Guardian Angel Project Launches with Movie Premiere

Thursday October 22; POS, Trinidad - On Wednesday November 4th 2009, Hollywood actress Meagan Good will be in attendance at Movietowne, along with actor/director Ty Hodges, artiste Maximus Dan and dozens of other local celebrities, to participate in the launch of the Guardian Angel Project and screening of the independent feature, “Miles from Home”. (A film that focuses on the troubling issues related to children living on the streets, and the trials and tribulations they have to deal with.)
The Guardian Angel Project is an effort designed to bring volunteers together to work in social programmes and to offer one’s services in mentoring or training workshops to our youth. The details of which will be revealed on the night of the event.
“In light of the problems affecting our country, the time has come for all of us to stand up and be counted. The issues we face did not manifest overnight, so it’s up to us to stop dwelling on the negatives and work on ways to bring about positive change, because we owe it to ourselves and the land of our birth,” says Maximus Dan
“The Guardian Angel Project is not unique perhaps, nor is it an unrealistic attempt to solve all the problems we have in a country as beautiful as ours; but it is a way to move forward. That being said, if we can make the difference in the life of one person, or one district, we could eventually create an island that is motivated to teach or protect someone who needs guidance or help”
This launch and movie premiere is sponsored in part by the DCDB Foundation, TSTT, the Carlton Savannah, Scrip-J and Movietowne. Also giving their support are HADCO, Hennessy Extra, Signwave and Hybrid Tent Rentals.
History of the Guardian Angel Project
This initiative stems from the DCDB Foundation which was started by Maximus Dan in 2006. DCDB, which stands for Don’t Cross De Border, is a familiar line Maximus has employed for years in his act, to remind our youth of the dangers of making the wrong choices. That saying however has evolved into a reminder for all people, regardless of age, that the responsibility of helping each other is crucial for us to move forward in a positive manner.
Maximus Dan’s work goes way beyond that of an entertainer and often crosses over into the realm of philanthropist and Good Samaritan. Over the years he has partnered his efforts with both the private and Government sector and hosted dozens of workshops and symposiums on being role models to our youth, and provided motivational speeches to thousands of children throughout Trinidad and Tobago.
Maximus Dan’s work as an “Angel” to others has motivated us all, and his generous efforts have helped convince other institutions like the TSTT Foundation, Movietowne and the Carlton Savannah to come on board this gargantuan effort.
The Trinidadian Connection
Ty Hodges recently visited Trinidad to direct the popular music video, “Stalker” by Kes the Band. Hodges, who boasts Trinidadian heritage (along with Co-Producer Marlon Ollivierre), has been living and working in Los Angeles for many years and has starred in many TV shows such as Even Stevens (alongside Shia La Beouf), Felicity and NYPD Blue. Ty Hodges wrote “Miles from Home” and asked close friends Meagan Good and Marlon Ollivierre to be a part of it. Both readily agreed given the message of the movie and its relevance to society. Good has starred in many movies including: Stomp the Yard; You Got Served; Deliver us from Eva; and the Hollywood Blockbuster, SAW V.
