What do you do when the one you love is the one who betrayed you the worst?
Masani Productions in association with Upfront Theatre Foundation presents the reggae musical, SOUNDCLASH. The play is an expose of Caribbean life in Canada, particularly in Toronto. The story follows the life of an innocent Jamaican man framed for a crime he didn’t commit. Upon his release from incarceration he sojourns into the dancehall culture to find the individual who committed the crime and clear his name only to find love, lies and deception. This story unfolds in a series of flashbacks dating from the ‘70’s to the present, utilizing the music of Jamaica – ska, rock steady, Nyah Binghi drums and reggae. The play shows how violence, stigmatic stereotype and strong ambition can change one's life for the worst or even the best.
SOUNDCLASH features the cast of top Canadian reggae singers and well-known actors. The play is written by veteran playwright, Masani Montague, BA(Hons), MES and directed by international known director, Luther Hansraj. Music directed by Dr. Lennox Royer and dance choreography by David Smith. SOUNDCLASH is based on characters from the novel, DREAD CULTURE, written by the playwright and published by Sister Vision Press: Black Women and Women of Colour press. Theme song written by Laurence Woodcock.
