Everyone needs a hero. This Christmas, bpTT and the Marionettes Chorale join forces to champion the cause of The Heroes Foundation at the opening night gala of the choir's annual Christmas concert.
Sponsored by bpTT, the gala performance of Christmas with the Marionettes-- which marks the end of the Marionettes' 45th anniversary celebrations-- will be held at Queen's Hall on December 3rd at 8 pm. The funds raised at the gala will go towards funding activities and programmes that will encourage young men and women to serve their community in positive, life-giving ways.
bpTT, the Marionettes' corporate sponsor since 1972, will also host a free matinee performance on Saturday 5th December for senior citizens, children and persons with disabilities from institutions across Trinidad. bpTT will also sponsor transportation and holiday gift bags for the guests of this much anticipated performance.
Founded in 2002, The Heroes Foundation works to raise the morale among the nation's youth by encouraging them to become leaders and mentors to others. The organisation fosters team work skills through its Youth Development programme, which allows students from institutions throughout the country to work jointly on community projects. It also provides one-on-one mentorship through the Big Brothers and Big Sisters programme, which pairs young people with adult volunteers. The group hosts a regular Heroes Convention, at which the foundation pays tribute to people in the national community who have been exemplars of service and achievement. The Heroes Foundation supports two comic book series: Heart of a Hero and Heroes of a Nation. These books feature artwork by young people involved in the foundation and focus on what it takes to be a hero and honouring local heroes.
The gala performance in aid of the Heroes Foundation is one of many initiatives by the Marionettes to broaden the range of their community outreach programmes. Other ventures include their incorporation as a non-profit; charity performances such as the matinee show; and numerous fundraising events for schools and organisations nationally and regionally. All these ventures have been made possible through the choir's longstanding partnership with bpTT. Indeed, bpTT's generous support over the past 37 years has facilitated not only the choir's biannual musical productions but also its more altruistic aims.
Tickets for the gala performance of Christmas with the Marionettes cost $250 and are available from members of the choir or from the Queen's Hall Box Office. Tickets can also be purchased online at CaribbeanBoxOffice.net.

ABOUT THE MARIONETTES:
Founded in 1964, incorporated as a nonprofit in 2005, and sponsored by bpTT since 1972, the Marionettes Chorale (Hummingbird Medal Gold) is one of the Caribbean's most celebrated choirs, both at home and abroad. In 1995, the Youth Chorale was formed, comprised of boys and girls from over 30 schools throughout Trinidad & Tobago who regularly share the stage with their senior counterparts. Led since 1974 by conductor Gretta Taylor, assistant musical director Susan Dore and secretary and founder member Joanne Mendes, the choirs mount at least two major productions a year, showcasing a repertoire ranging from European Renaissance to Caribbean Folk and Calypso.
