Nu-Vybes
among final nominations for "Caribbean Grammy"
Basseterre,
St.Kitts ( March 23rd 2006 ) :- Kittitian 5 time road
march champions the Nu-Vybes Band International aka De
Sugar Band was recently announced as one of the final
nominees for the Annual Reggae Soca Music Awards.
The annual event which recognizes reggae
and soca music excellence was first held way back in 1994
by its founder Winsome ‘Lady C’ Charlton at
the Bailey Concert Hall in Davie, South Florida. The Awards
became a reality after years of deliberation and pondering
due to concern about the lack of recognition for Caribbean
music in the United States despite its continued popularity.
The ceremony consists of twenty five (25)
awards in various categories namely Vocalists, D.J.s,
Producers, and Albums, Songs, Record Labels, Instrumental,
Video and more.
The Awards has been able to maintain its
success due to its star studded entertainment, the high
percentage of artist attendance, its on time reputation,
its undisputable voting system and delivering a world
wide quality production with its excellent team of technical
experts.
Along with its outstanding array of international
artistes, performers also include dancers, dub poetry
along with the delightful and incomparable artistry of
our Masters of Ceremony Fae Ellington O.D. and Charles
Hyatt O.D.
The
voting was done by placing ballot boxes in local businesses,
voting parties at popular nightclubs, and on-line voting
through there website (http://www.reggaesocamusicawards.com/www.reggaesocamusicawards.com).Along
with personnel from the music industry. The Final count
was given an assigned accountant.
With the Caribbean still waiting the awarding
of the first SOCA Grammy at the grammy’s, it is
of no surprise that The Reggaesoca Music Awards has become
known as the ‘Caribbean Grammy’s’. It
is therefore incumbent on us to ensure the future of the
Reggaesoca Music Awards – "Fi We Grammy.
Nu-Vybes Band International was among
the preliminary nominations for the BEST SOCA GROUP category.
Other preliminary nominations included well known and
established Caribbean bands like WCK, Traffik, Atlantik,
Square One, Burning Flames ,Roy Cape, El-A-Kru, Da Bahn
and Byron Lee and the Dragoanires among others. Nu-Vybes
made the final cut or top 4 along with Xtatik, Krosfyah
and Jam Band . The Final nominees for BEST SOCA GROUP
therefore is Nu-Vybes, Xtatik, Krosfyah and Jam Band.
The band has been travelling quite exetensively
participating in carnival celebrations in Dominica,St.Maarten,St.Croix
and they are expected to be a major part of Virgin Gorda,St.Thomas,Atlanta
and Tortola carnival celebrations.
The awards show takes place at the Broward
Center for the performing arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida
on May 27th
