A Sketch Comedy Drama Extravaganza 'dat will mek yuh laaf
til yuh caaf an nuh mine sharp yuh teet dem drap out'
at the Betty Oliphant Theatre, the National Ballet School
of Canada, 404 Jarvis Street in downtown Toronto, Sunday,
April 30, 2006 at 6:00 P M.
"CariRonto" 'Where Toronto Meets The Caribbean'
is about real life Toronto experiences presented with
a Caribbean flava. Written by the hilarious and what yuh
see is what yuh get Selbert Boothe and directed by the
multi-talented Kevin Sinclair who is making his Canadian
directorial debut in this comedy drama extravaganza. "CariRonto"
is about four sketch comedy dramas with a pinch of musical
theatre. "Church On Fire" A Revival Pocomania
Church set in modern day Toronto with traditional beliefs
is about the uproar between the congregation and the Pastor.
"Practice What Yuh Preach" tells the story of
an entertainment promoter who ridicules her employee because
he has been living in Canada for so long and lives an
apartment building and still taking the TTC. "Men
On Da Down Low And Queen On Da Up High" is about
a talk show featuring three gay male guests, two who are
closeted and the third a drag queen who tries to prove
that the other two men are big ole queens like he is.
"Girlfriends" features five professional women
who meet and share their stories about their male encounters.
"CariRonto" brings issues such
as; sexuality, denial, pretense, needs, love, relationships,
friendships, rejection, religion and life styles to the
fore front. "It's like everyday situations or its
something (s) that someone tells you that is normally
not expressed so openly, explicitly and more so blatantly."
"CariRonto" is like the Matrix, it all around
you, it's everywhere. It's raw, it's edgy, it's fierce,
it's blatant, it has serious moments, but over all hilariously
shocking.
The cast of "CariRonto" consist
of 10 actors, five males and five females, their backgrounds
varies from black and Indian Caribbean, black and Jewish
Canadians and East Indian. Although only three members
of the cast are seasoned actors, the seven new comers
to the stage are as professional, committed, and serious
as their and display such vibrancy, endurance and enthusiasm.
The ensemble; Selbert Boothe, Kevin Sinclair, Keesha Brownie,
Crystal Ferrier, Richard Flynn, Terrence Gardiner, Raiza
Khan, Ingrid Pascal, Daniel Sadavoy and Simone Williams
bring rich cultural expressions, different personalities,
accents, energy, vibes and harmony to make the production
so colourful, flavourful, rich, alive and powerful.
Because of its adult themes and coarse
language, "CariRonto" is for mature audience
only.
The
evening's programme will be emceed by Racquel Hamlet former
Miss Black World and it promises to be entertaining and
fun with prize give-a-ways, guest musical performance
by Leanne Dedricks and complimentary beverages and Hors
d'oeuvres prepared by some of Toronto's top restaurants.
