CHRY 105.FM Receives Approval to Increase its Power.

Toronto, Canada – (May 26th, 2006) - The staff, programmers, volunteers and Board members of CHRY Community Radio Incorporated would like to extend gratitude and thanks to our supporters. Due to their letters of support to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), CHRY has received approval to increase its power.

On May 23rd, 2006 the Commission announced the following (Decision 2006-196):

“1. The Commission approves the application by CHRY Community Radio Incorporate to change the authorized contours of the community-based campus radio programming undertaking CHRY-FM Toronto, by increasing the effective radiated power (ERP) from 50 watts to an average ERP of 158 watts, and by increasing the antenna height.
2. The licensee submitted that the proposed technical changes will improve the
quality of CHRY-FM’s signal. In the licensee’s view, this improvement will lead
to greater community involvement in CHRY-FM.
3. The Commission received many interventions in support of this application.
4. The Commission notes that the increase in power will change CHRY-FM’s status
from that of a low-power unprotected service to a regular Class A1 service.”

The news of CHRY’s power increase has reached the community members such as, Maria Myers of Spice Island Association, who writes:

“I am so happy for CHRY. I am also glad that I was a part of your
application, as well as so many more, it's always good to work
collectively, to get the job done. Congratulations once again”

Host Paula Letang-Loblack of Experience Creole is ecstatic, she writes:

“People powered CHRY will be giving “more Power to the People”! It is very exciting to be a part of this new growth for the station. They were the only ones, seven years ago, willing to give French-Creole music a prime-time slot on Thursday nights.”

Dedicated client, Clinton Morgan writes:

“Eagleforce Entertainment Inc & EyeOne Records Inc. were elated to learn of your good news of power increase. Please accept our heartiest congratulations and best wishes for your continued success.”

CHRY is currently in the process of preparing technical requirements for upgrade in the Fall. With this increase, we will be able to reach more listeners outside the current listening borders of North York, Brampton, and Vaughan.

CHRY 105.5FM relies on its listeners for their support. Now with the current increase to our airwaves, we are excited to welcome new listeners to the CHRY family!

Please contact Anderson Rouse, Operations Coordinator for comments at chrymgr@yorku.ca or 416-736-5293 ext. 33914.
