“Many
people purchase bootlegged CDs from vendors and flea markets
because they can’t wait for the official CD’s
to be released, sometimes weeks and months after the Carnival
season has long come and gone.” explained Roger
Mahabir (president of iSOCA.ca). “Soca lovers want
to purchase the music during Carnival time and prefer
the MP3 format because of the new technology being offered
by leading electronic manufacturers like Apple iPOD. If
iSOCA.ca can get the music to the customers before the
pirates, everyone wins” Roger adds. Juicy aka Jahbami
agrees with Roger’s insight and has granted permission
for the sale of all of his tracks on iSOCA.ca.
Juicy
also praised Caribbean website Toronto-Lime.com for showcasing
his music to a worldwide audience. "Toronto-Lime
has big help in promoting my music. I will always make
sure Toronto-Lime gets my music to play on-line first."
Juicy aka Jahbami's newest Soca and Reggae tracks are
available for preview at www.Toronto-Lime.com/music.
Originally
from Arima, Trinidad, Juicy aka Jahbami has found a new
home in Brooklyn, New York, alongside fellow soldiers
Khari Kill, Ridlah Red and King David, a talented group
of artists known as “RED ARMY”.
Not
just a vocalist, Juicy is the writer of all his own lyrics
and musical scores and is also an accomplished steelpan
arranger. The multifaceted artist studied music at the
University of the West Indies and joined the T&T Coast
Guard after graduating where he served for 2 years before
leaving to pursue his love of the art form. Juicy spent
a year in Japan, performing and writing music before moving
to New York where he now resides.
Juicy
has since written songs for Gailann & Sister Ron (Always
Remember Jah) and Ghetto Flex & Rocky (Carnival Is
Bacchanal).
With
many different influences present in his music, Juicy
mentioned “Anita Baker” as one of his favorite
artists. His other influences include reggae greats such
as Bob Marley, Sizzla and Soca legend, Shadow. “Every
time I put out a new track, I want to be totally different”
exclaimed Juicy.
When
asked if there was anyone he would like to work with in
the future, Juicy said “Shadow, definitely Shadow.
Everything Shadow sings about is sensible and every track
means something.”
When
asked why the two names, he explained “Juicy, has
been with me from my school days. When ‘Pepperseed’
(a popular 90’s Jamaican dance) came out, I decided
to make my own style and called it ‘Juicy Mango’,
and the name has been with me ever since. Jahbami is a
recently acquired name that identifies me as a reggae
artist.”
Jahbami’s
latest offering “New
Day” on the Jah Love Riddim, produced
by Bobby Kondas from New York, further displays his versatility.
Juicy
aka Jahbami is currently working on a track called “Repatriation”
with Jamaican artist, Norris Man, set to be released this
summer.
His
upcoming album, “Split Personality” will feature
a double album showcasing both Reggae and Soca genres.
All of his tracks (past and present) will soon be available
on-line at www.iSOCA.ca.
