Kes
Launches First CD - by Sean Nero (Trinidad Guardian)
Kes the band took another major step in
its musical evolution last Wednesday, with the launch
of its first-ever CD titled Three Baldheads and A Dread.
Club 51† Lounge, located at 51 Cipriani
Boulevard, Port-of-Spain, was the venue for the fun-filled
musical experience, featuring the energetic band of musicians,
that thrilled the large, lively audience in attendance.
Blessed with talent, the band led by a
charismatic Kees Dieffenthaller, along-side brothers Hans
and Jon Dieffenthaller; Riad Boochoon; Nadia Batson; Keithson
Cruickshank on keyboard; and Richard Balgobin, (the rhythm
sampling technician who also does vocals) the group offered
fans a pulsating 45-minute set.
Past hits and new material reverberated
throughout the venue as the seven-member band delivered
its choice musical mix.
Stay With Me was the first selection off
the band’s nine- tune repertoire, which was quite
appropriate in setting the tone of the presentation.
The audience then heard the popular hit
called Push, followed by One Day.
At this juncture, lead singer (Kees Dieffenthaller)
engaged the gathering and underscored the importance of
dealing with incidents of violence prevalent among the
nation’s youth.
He called on adults to do all within their
power, to deliver positive influences for young people
to follow, so they can have a better tomorrow.
Like the band’s music, his promotion
of youth upliftment generated sustained, lusty applause.
Judging from the impact of Kes the Band,
the group will not be denied its rightful place in this
country’s musical landscape and beyond.
Members exhibited style, flare, attitude
and charisma during the presentation, tied in with natural
good looks and sex appeal.
Deliberate eye contact between musicians,
as well as fans ensured that everyone played a positive
part in the production.
Dieffenthaller (Kees) could not contain
his delight upon introducing the selection titled The
Calling, worked on in Los Angeles, USA, by renowned producer
Derek Bramble.
The bonus to naming the selection, was
the revelation that The Calling had been chosen by Electronic
Arts Sports (EA Sports), to be included on its soundtrack
to the highly anticipated football game titled Fifa 2006—World
Cup Edition.
With football-mania alive and well in
T&T, the front-line singer’s disclosure was
added incentive for patrons to cheer.
Alternative fans loved the band’s
cover of the Dave Matthews hit Crash Into Me. Likewise,
they revelled in Dieffenthaller’s open display of
love and affection to his family on the conclusion of
the song called Lion.
He hugged his father.
Kes’ rendition of this item was
accentuated by a pan fusion with pannist Andrew Mc Intosh,
a principal member of local rock group Skid Nevely.
Pulsating soca styles returned to the
halls of 51 Degrees, when singer/songwriter Nadia Batson
took over the reigns as lead vocalist doing One Island.
Heads High was next on the songlist with
vocals by Dieffenthaller (Kees) before offering Runaway,
which is an apt description of Kes’ rate of success.
