Toronto-Lime.com Celebrates 10 Years with a Superstar Cast

Toronto, April 24, 2006 – March of 2006 marked the 10th year that the world leading Caribbean website has been informing and entertaining Soca fans around the world.

In celebration of this milestone, Toronto-Lime.com will team up with FLOW radio personality and ‘International Soca DJ of the Year’ Dr JAY, in what is expected to be one of the biggest events to be staged in Toronto this year.

The superstar cast of entertainers will include ‘KES the Band’, ‘Destra Garcia with Atlantik’ and Maximus Dan. The highly anticipated event, dubbed “SOCA OR DIE 4 LOVE” takes place at SIN CITY Nightclub (99 Peelar Rd, Toronto, Canada) on Victoria Weekend (Sunday May 21st) and is expected to have a sold out audience of more than 2500 fete-goers.

“These artists were chosen not only because of their abilities, but in keeping with the theme we wanted to showcase artists that consistently exemplify positive messages to their fans. Not to mention these are personally three of my very favorite artists”, exclaims Jef Lo (the Toronto-Lime.com webmaster).

When asked about Toronto-Lime.com’s humble beginnings, Jef explained “The website was originally a school project. It started out as a general Toronto entertainment website, hosting information about nightclubs, comedy clubs, etc. But one day, while surfing the web for ‘SOCA’ and ‘CALYPSO’ related items, all that came up in my searches where 'Harry Belafonte' and 'Byron Lee'. That’s when the focus was shifted to primarily Caribbean content, as I felt Soca needed a place on the fast growing worldwide web. After a few years of hard work and countless hours of research, the world began to take notice, and now here it is.”

Originally from South Trinidad (Cedros/Point Fortin), Jef founded the world's very first Caribbean entertainment portal back in 1996. Since its inception, Toronto-Lime.com has grown into the most popular entertainment website of its kind; now attracting over 75,000 "unique" visitors and generating more than 2,500,000 hits daily. In 2004 the website was nominated for "Best Urban Website" by UMAC and was also named "Website of The Year" at the Canadian Caribbean Awards". The site is not only currently ranked the number one Caribbean website, but is also ranked amongst the top 11,000 websites globally, according to market researchers (see web ranking table at end of article).

The website is unquestionably the most comprehensive Caribbean based site on the web, featuring entertainment news, artist profiles, fact files, historical records, worldwide Carnival info and schedules, event and festival photos, desktop themes, DJ mixes, music videos, lyrics and not to mention, the largest Soca/Calypso play list on the net.

Many websites have since shadowed the internet guru and attempted to emulate its structure and content. Jef was asked to comment on this and said, “I look at it as the highest form of flattery, but the public knows who did it first and will always look to the leader. Followers will always follow.” Toronto-Lime.com also introduced an industry first in 2002 when it launched its mobile version (www.toronto-lime.com/mobile), which allows wireless users around the world to access the website via cell phone to get updated 'on the fly'. When asked what inspired the development, Jef said laughingly, “The demand was present and the technology was available, so why not. Now party-goers can check event info while en-route to the club-district and won’t have to stop off at a friend’s house to use a PC to get info when they’re already late getting to the dance”. The mobile site also offers free downloads of ‘Soca/Carnival’ images as well as ‘Soca Ringtones’ to customize your cell phone.

Also an accomplished designer, Jef has also developed websites for leading Caribbean organizations and businesses, including www.Callaloo.NET, www.GhettoFlex.com, www.DeniseBelfon.NET, www.EvaSimon.com, www.DeMusicLibrary.com and www.Wheels-Direct.com. More of his work is available at www.JefGrafix.com.

The repertoire doesn’t end there; Jef is also the co-founder of North-America’s newest Caribbean talent agency www.SocaBookings.com which offers promoters around the world a means of contacting and booking Caribbean artists and international DJ’s for concerts and festivals. The roster of stars include Road March Queen ‘Patrice Roberts’, acclaimed songwriter/performer ‘Kernel Roberts’, Billboard Chart topper ‘KMC’ and his band ‘Red White & Black’, plus Roy Cape All Stars, Ghetto Flex and Imij & Co., Denise Belfon, Iwer George, Mista Vybes and a host of others.

Jef plans on making Soca Bookings the number one Caribbean booking agency in the near future. “Well, it’s always about putting your best foot forward and the intent is to become the top performer booking agency in the world."

Once again, the leading webmaster will put his ‘best foot forward’ as he joins #1 DJ/Radio personality Dr JAY to host a world-class event. ‘SOCA OR DIE 4 LOVE’ takes place Sunday May 21st at Sin City. Tickets are now available in various stores around the GTA.
