Queen Macoomeh’s book Tales from Icebox Land - A “SOLD OUT” Best Seller with Caribbean Fans!
Thursday December 13, 2007 - Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Queen Macoomeh’s first book – Tales from Icebox Land – is a huge hit with her legions of fans! Itah Sadu, co-owner of A Different Booklist, says, “This book is flying off the shelves! It’s in a category by itself! This is a best-selling, local, grassroots book; a big #1! Excellent book!”
A Different Booklist hosted the Toronto launch of Tales from Icebox Land on Friday, November 23rd, 2007. It was “standing room only” crammed full of fans, family and dignitaries including the Consul General of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago in Toronto, Mr. Michael Lashley; Dr. Rita Cox; Professor Elizabeth Abbott; Althea Prince, author; and Trinidad-based musicologist, Joslynne Sealey (who flew up from Trinidad especially for the event). Most in attendance bought 2-3 books per person; all personally autographed.
“I am still in awe of the turnout and the support and the love I got that night,” says Queen Macoomeh. “Some members of my Commess University faculty made sure that it was documented on video and to be honest, if I didn’t have that to refer to, I would still doubt how successful it all turned out.
“And that had me thinking that maybe I should just start writing and compiling my second book … sooner rather than later,” continues Macoomeh. “So to my fans, I want to let you know that I wish to keep our first meeting very special to us both. Subsequently, I have decided not to do a reprint of my first book. If you met me on November 23rd in Toronto and I signed your book, well it’s now a collector’s item. Thank you for your support!”
To anyone who has an interest in buying this book, do so quickly because, as of December 12th, 2007, there are only 40 books left available for sale! While quantities last, the only two current, remaining retail outlets with an inventory of the book, Tales from Icebox Land, are www.commessuniversity.com, and/or “A Different Booklist” in Toronto (www.adifferentbooklist.com; Tel: 416-538-0889).
Published by Commess University Press in October 2007, Tales from Icebox Land comprises a “best of” compilation from Queen Macoomeh’s 7-year career as a weekly newspaper columnist. Described as a combination of USA’s (TV) Comedy Network’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and Canada’s (TV) CBC Network’s “This Hour has 22 Minutes” delivered with Caribbean flavor, her column(s)/stories uses satire and humour as its main ingredients with observations on such topics as North American politics, general societal ills and world politics to name a few. They are usually 800 words in length … full of sense, nonsense, and common sense. Mostly written in Trinidadian vernacular, this 163-page, limited edition, paperback book includes a glossary of words so that the un-initiated won’t get “lost in translation.” Finally, as no topic is off limits, strap yourself in for this wild yet fun read! |
